The Kazanjian Red

5.05 carat Asscher cut red diamond

Considered to be one of the most important gemstones in the world, the Kazanjian Red is currently on display at the American Museum of Natural History in New York. Red is the rarest color found in diamonds. The Kazanjian Red was mined in South Africa in 1927, and was the world’s largest red diamond for nearly 70 years. It was stolen by the Nazis from a safe in Holland, and rediscovered in a salt mine in Berchtesgaden by US Army General Joseph McNarney, who thought he had found a ruby! The Kazanjian’s purchased this stone from a family in the Far East. It has become the symbol of the company’s search for rare gems and jewels from private estates around the world.
